Controller's Comments:

I spent two days in glorious sunshine in superb woodland at its best for orienteering.  Bob's map and courses were well received and I feel sorry for those who opted for regional events elsewhere.  This must be the best orienteering terrain in England south of the Lake District. I am grateful to Ivan Teed for considerably reducing the burden on my ageing legs and yet again I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the NGOC organising team AND the control collectors.

Organiser's Comments:

The origins of today's event were a regional (C3) event scheduled for last May but nesting goshawks caused a late cancellation. Then a WM club objected when we tried to reschedule it for today, as it clashed with their C4 event, and British Orienteering ruled that ours too had to become a C4. Thus was born a SW galoppen on a new map with two extra courses ( as planning for the original event was already complete ), and the idea of making limited age related results available within the colours.        From the comments that I have heard today both Bob's courses and the area were worth the wait. I am glad that you enjoyed yourselves and my thanks to the usual willing band of NGOC helpers.

Planner's Comments:

Having mapped the area I thought planning would be fairly easy after all I knew where every thing was. Wrong, the biggest problem was the Climb to Length ratio. I hate having a low end length course and if it’s too short I will go up to the next colour, beautiful woods they may be but they were steep!  I hope I managed to keep you on the right course for your abilities and you enjoyed your course.

Thank you all for your kind comments about the map and courses. It was the most taxing area to map, but very enjoyable to be in a beautiful secret area of the Dean.

The course times were reasonable and hopefully will help the next planner, I am looking forward to a run on the area myself.

Many thanks to Dave for stress free controlling and Ivan for checking, putting out  and collecting controls, Many thanks to my stalwart band of control collectors which got me home before dark.

See you in the Forest
