Maprun Start Anywhere

Published by Pat Macleod on

With the latest release of maprunF – 4.8.8 – comes the Start Anywhere facility. This means that for courses set up to allow it, you can start and finish at any control, not just the designated start/finish. Start Anywhere can’t be retrofitted to existing courses, but we can republish any that people would like to be able to use in these locked down times, by starting and finishing nearer to home.

So far we have enabled most of the maptrail courses, as well as Wotton and Kingsway, together with a new 60 minute score based on Danby Lodge, and also a new run/ride linear trail around Moseley Green. If there is a course near you that you would like Start Anywhere enabled, drop us a line at maprun@ngoc.org.uk, and we will set it up for you.

It’s worth pointing out also that the latest versions of maprunF include several tools to make it easier to get out and maprun in current times. Start Anywhere aside, they are aimed at personal use, and there is a good Youtube video here that explains how these work. If you are looking for something to do, give these options a go.

You’ll find the Start Anywhere courses in a new folder under UK > Gloucestershire (note that MR has disappeared from the folder structure!) called Start Anywhere.

If you fancy running any of the Maptrail courses starting anywhere, note that for this to work the Start and Finish locations, often separate in the trail courses, need to be co-located, to act as just another control. As a result we have adjusted the positions as necessary, but as little as possible, to create a new S/F ‘control’. Check your phone map to see where it is; we have not re-issued the course maps, so for these and any other SAW course, if you need a paper copy, just go to the Courses page on the website and print the original map from there.
