We are in Abbeymead, Gloucester, this week, first visit there for several years. It's a great area, loads of route options, footpaths galore linking up the estates, so head over to Fabian4.co.uk and sign up before entries close on Wednesday night. If you haven't tried MapRun before, give it a go. All you need is a smartphone with the MapRun app installed. The Abbeydale course is now published, so you can download it in readiness for next week's race. Make sure to sign up at Fabian4.co.uk before next Wednesday night. It looks a very good course, plenty of thinking needed to get the most out of it. This is the last of the first quarter winter evening races. In April we switch to two races each month, one around the Forest of Dean and points West of the Severn, and one East of the river. We just have one or two slots to fill, and then we will publish the programme for second quarter.And always we are on the lookout for people willing to plan a race around their locality - lots of scope during the summer months to get out of town and run in the villages and countryside of Gloucester (and Hereford!) ... A great turnout last night for our first race of 2026, in Lydney, particularly from Chepstow Harriers - lovely to see so many people taking on Cherry's challenge and the hills of Lydney. And some great results, with Richard Cronin just missing one control. Apart from the cakes, the nearby chippy did good business as well.....we must try and plan to have more such opportunities for people travelling some way to our events! Next month - 12 Feb - we are in Tewkesbury, if there is enough of the town above water; checking the course on Google earth right now suggests that quite a lot of it isn't. Only a couple of days left to enter our first 2026 MapRun - in Lydney, Thursday, planned by Cherry Fowler of Chepstow Harriers. For a little extra incentive this year we are offering little participation mementoes - with a suitably 'forest' feel - for 5, 7 and 9 races during the 18 race series. We aim to schedule one run a month in the dark months, and two per month in Spring and Summer, at venues evenly distributed either side of the Severn, so that you have plenty of scope to reach those milestone, with your best 7 races contributing to your league score.
